Do Information technology Once again is an extended play (EP) by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp and Swedish singer Robyn, released on 23 May 2014 by Dog Triumph. The EP coincides with Röyksopp and Robyn's joint tour, the Röyksopp & Robyn Practise Information technology Once again Tour 2014, featuring shows in Europe and North America. Post-obit her Body Talk Tour, Robyn travelled to Bergen, Kingdom of norway, where she began working on new music with Röyksopp in early on 2013, having previously collaborated with the duo on the songs "The Daughter and the Robot" (2009) and "None of Dem" (2010).
The EP was met with generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its music as "flawlessly-produced" and "adventurous". Do It Again reached number three in Kingdom of norway and number 20 in the Britain, while becoming the kickoff number-one album on Billboard 'southward Trip the light fantastic toe/Electronic Albums chart for both artists. It was preceded by the singles "Do It Again" and "Sayit", the former of which attained moderate success on the charts. The EP was nominated for the 2015 Grammy Award for All-time Trip the light fantastic/Electronic Album.
Background and evolution [edit]
"Nosotros didn't have any master program for what we were doing. Sounding a chip pretentious, this was a complimentary space without any master programme or blueprint for all three of us. Nosotros didn't have any plan other than to hang out, be together and brand some music. And we kept it very much between the three of us, without including too many people in terms of labels and management and then on. Which gives you a sure freedom and flexibility. So that was the simply sort of matter that we had; have fun, let's have no inhibitions, no limitations and do whatever we want to practise, and that'south why we made a 10-minute track with saxophone."[ii]
—Berge on Practise It Again
Röyksopp and Robyn first collaborated in 2009 on the song "The Girl and the Robot", which was released equally a single from Röyksopp'south third studio album, Junior.[3] The two artists collaborated again in 2010 on "None of Dem", a runway from Robyn's fifth studio album, Body Talk Pt. 1.[4] On 9 December 2013, Röyksopp and Robyn appear plans to embark on a joint tour titled the Röyksopp & Robyn Do Information technology Over again Tour 2014, which would include dates across Europe and North America.[5]
Later concluding her Body Talk Tour in 2011, Robyn felt uninspired to record a new album.[6] She decided to travel to Bergen, Norway, where she started working on new music with Röyksopp in the beginning of 2013 "with no existent agenda".[4] [seven] "I've been going dorsum and forth to Bergen to record and write with the boys upwardly until recently. Collaborating with [Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland] is something I savor very much. In the beginning nosotros just knew nosotros wanted to practice something together and then information technology started to feel more like a ring affair than songs for a Röyksopp or Robyn album and so we're releasing this music together as a band, you could say", she said,[7] describing the collaborative project as "an outlet for non having to live up to anything but my own expectations."[4]
Robyn as well stated that she wanted to work with the duo "from scratch". "I thought it would be interesting. In the beginning we just decided to make music. No ane said, 'We should make music for this album' or 'We should make music for that album.' Then I had this idea where, you know, possibly nosotros tin can create something together. I had no real wish to start recording an album right away. I'd simply gotten off tour. I wanted to just play around and exercise stuff and collaborate. Secretly in my mind I wanted us to be a band, simply I didn't think it seriously. And so we turned into a band. Carrying the weight together is something that I recall changes the music."[8]
According to Berge, the 3 of them were "in a particular place and infinite in our lives, where things were perhaps a bit bleak. And so, in a way, we were all starting from square one, with no real intention other than to have our time and brand what nosotros wanted. And value every opinion, and I think that that translated well into the music."[6] The duo commented that Do It Again "doesn't sound similar Röyksopp featuring Robyn or Robyn produced past Röyksopp, it's just something else entirely. The word 'collaboration' has never before been more justified in the world of music!"[7] In Apr 2014, it was reported that Exercise It Again would serve as an introduction to Röyksopp'south so-untitled fifth studio album, The Inevitable End, which was released in November and features 2 songs from the EP.[seven] [9]
Composition [edit]
The EP opens with "Monument", a ten-minute rail inspired past the dirt sculptures of Brazilian-American artist Juliana Cerqueira Leite that Robyn saw at London'south Saatchi Gallery.[10] The song'southward minimal instrumentation consists of a "stretched-out" saxophone outro and synthesised bass,[11] [12] while lyrically, Robyn stated it is "about expiry", "defining who you lot are" and "a physical sensation of an emotion".[10] "Sayit", an electro-punk and business firm vocal,[4] [thirteen] features a "lustful" conversation between Robyn and a Speak & Spell toy over a "glitchy" techno vanquish.[fourteen] [fifteen] Berge described the song equally "a scrap of an homage to the proficient former days of clubbing", and cited information technology as "the dirtiest song on the tape, both in terms of production and concept."[8]
"Do It Again" is a "throbbing" electropop song[16] on which Robyn "contemplates resuming an on-again, off-over again relationship",[17] while incorporating "fluttering" synths and "slamming" drums.[18] Röyksopp and Robyn wrote the championship rail later on an "epic" nighttime out in Bergen, Norway, resulting in what the trio calls an "accidental pop vocal".[iv] "Every Little Matter" is a bittersweet electro ballad that "layers synthesizers and a gently pulsating shell to evoke heartbeats and conflicted emotions."[13] [19] The ten-infinitesimal closing instrumental,[thirteen] "Inside the Idle Hour Club", is an "nearly eerie ambient soundscape".[15] The rails "barely features Robyn'southward vocals at all",[12] while employing "looping synths and contumely just barely pinned down by a hypnotic house beat."[17]
Release and promotion [edit]
On 14 April 2014, Röyksopp and Robyn announced that their collaborative EP, Do It Once more, would be released on 26 May, while sharing a snippet of the song "Monument".[20] The title track was released digitally on 28 April 2014 as the lead unmarried from the EP.[7] The song reached number 16 on the Swedish Singles Nautical chart and number eighteen on the Danish Singles Chart,[21] besides every bit number one on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart in the United States.[22]
The second single, "Sayit", was released digitally on 19 May 2014,[23] while its accompanying video premiered through H&One thousand Life on the same day.[24] The vocal "Monument" is featured in Volvo's "Made by Sweden" advertisement entrada, which stars Robyn and launched online and on television set in Sweden on 2 May 2014.[25] The vocal was released equally the EP's 3rd and final unmarried on 15 August 2014,[26] and was preceded by a Max Vitali-directed music video on 12 Baronial.[27]
Bout [edit]
To promote the collaborative try, Röyksopp and Robyn announced on 9 December 2013 that they would be co-headlining a bout together, the Röyksopp & Robyn Exercise Information technology Once again Tour 2014.[5] The outset tour dates were unveiled on seven April 2014, along with a promotional trailer featuring the track "Sayit".[28] [29] The tour kicked off at Sónar by Night in Barcelona, Espana, on thirteen June 2014.[28] "We're going to do a set each—Röyksopp will play their songs, and I'll play my songs—then we'll do a role of the gear up together, with all the songs that we've e'er done together", Robyn told Billboard.[four]

Do It Again received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the EP received an average score of 76, based on 22 reviews.[33] Tom Morris of DIY characterised the EP every bit "a riot of compulsive, flawlessly-produced, and beautifully impassioned music", and lauded it as "a towering edifice of electronic brilliance".[i] Stephen Carlick of Exclaim! commented that on Do It Again, "Röyksopp and Robyn have not only traversed new territory, they've made it their own."[34] AllMusic's Heather Phares wrote that Röyksopp "bookends the EP with two of the almost introspective tracks to always grace a Robyn-affiliated projection", and noted that "the EP's sugary pop center provides a welcome balance", citing "Sayit" and the championship track as highlights.[17] Despite stating that "Röyksopp's contributions flag and sometimes experience dated or too techno-y", Caitlin White of Event of Audio viewed Exercise It Again as "a solid collection of five disparate songs" and establish that it "feels like an exploration for all involved, and even manages to address gender politics in discreet but intriguing ways."[19] Pitchfork 's Marc Hogan called the EP "excellent" and described it as "the physical artifact of Robyn and Röyksopp'due south union, it's improvident and left of center, only it's to a higher place all generous."[37]
Killian Fox of The Observer opined, "What's unexpected near this mini-album is how subdued Robyn, a larger-than-life presence, sounds on (most of) it", concluding that "Röyksopp are on peak form here, and when Robyn returns to her exuberant self on the title track, expressing mixed feelings about having clamorous appetites, the effect is electrifying."[36] Joe Goggins of Drowned in Audio stated that "Exercise It Once more is eccentric and ends as well quickly, but those considerations pale adjacent to the fact that inside less than one-half an hr, Robyn and Röyksopp go from eyeing each other with 18-carat suspicion to sounding as if they've never been apart."[11] Max Raymond of musicOMH wrote that with Exercise It Again, Röyksopp and Robyn accept "confirmed how much of a dynamite pairing they can be", while remarking that the EP "isn't every bit downright amazing as it could have been, but in that location are far more pros than cons. Information technology's definitely self-indulgent in places, resulting in some of the nearly adventurous pieces of music that either artist has conjured up in their corresponding careers, simply those moments are entirely justified."[35] Rolling Rock 's Sophie Weiner expressed that "[eastward]ven without the ecstatic melodrama of Robyn's all-time work or the momentum of Röyksopp albums similar 2009's Inferior, this is a worthwhile peek into three great electro-popular minds", naming "Monument" the EP's all-time rail.[38] In a mixed review, Camber Magazine 's Kevin Liedel felt that "Röyksopp and Robyn share and so much sonic DNA that their team-up is almost self-defeating, blurring the distinction between the two to the point where their respective quirks are substantially scratched in favor of a cohesive but far also clinical production", calculation that "neither party challenges the other to escape this new comfort zone".[39]
Do It Again was nominated for All-time Dance/Electronic Anthology at the 2015 Grammy Awards, simply lost out to Aphex Twin'southward Syro.[40]
Commercial operation [edit]
In Röyksopp's native Kingdom of norway, Do It Again debuted at number three on the Norwegian Albums Chart, condign the duo'southward first record to miss the height spot.[41] It entered the Britain Albums Chart at number xx, selling 4,806 copies in its outset week.[42] In the Usa, the EP debuted at number fourteen on the Billboard 200 and at number one on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart with xv,000 copies, giving both artists their offset number-one release on the latter nautical chart.[43] [44] Do It Again also became the highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 past a Norwegian creative person (Röyksopp), a record previously held by A-ha's Hunting High and Low, which peaked at number fifteen in 1985.[45] Elsewhere, the EP reached the pinnacle five in Denmark, the top 15 in Australia and Canada, and the top 20 in Switzerland.[46] [47]
