As for the question 'why are we reading this guy's book, any art student can write it', well, the answer is that the guy took the time to write the book down and submit it for publication.

What we have here is essentially a guide to a specific author's style with very detailed descriptions of media used, hints and techniques, also with a bit of guidance about what to look for, what avoid, and how to organise your workshop as an artist. This book was ok to read a little complex at times, I did enjoy it though 3/5 for me.

Collection of seven Civardi books in a series, most interesting of which is Drawing Light and Shade, which dwells on the recent Western technique of chiaroscura. Civardi is a classically-trained artist with a distinctive cross-hatching drawing technique with pencil and given to high precision and realism. Recommended for those who have already picked up a pencil to draw before, but the terminology and jargon can frighten away more introductory students of drawing.

I was hoping for some more basic information about drawing things other than people. This book concentrates on portraits.
